Welcome Letters 2009

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

On behalf of the Ministry of Environment Protection of the Republic of Kazakhstan, I would like to welcome exhibitors and guests of the 5th Anniversary Central Asian International Exhibition of EcoTechnologies and EcoServices for Industrial and Municipal Sectors – EcoTech 2009, as well as delegates to the Waste Management and Remediation of Legacy Contamination Conference – WasteTech Central Asia 2009.

Today, we are facing one of the most pressing environment protection issues – production and consumption waste management. An effective implementation of waste management strategies by the Ministry in long-term and mid-term periods, as well as compliance with the Concept of Environmental Safety of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2004-2015, began after the Kazakhstan Environmental Code was adopted in 2007.

The Ministry is collecting hazardous waste profile sheets from users of natural resources, preparing baseline information for the State Waste Inventory, and works to identify derelict waste. Cost accounting and in-process controls are being introduced everywhere to prevent and minimise waste generation, collect, recycle, handle, neutralise, store, and dispose of waste. Interaction with local executive bodies and other agencies is enhanced to establish an effective waste market in the country.

Design and implementation of breakthrough investment projects on recycling of industrial and consumer waste is especially important – just like SME development in different regions of the country to produce building, packing and finishing materials compliant with international standards.

For five years running, our Ministry has provided support for EcoTech as it is a significant and timely event to further conservation technologies development in Kazakhstan, apply them in production, improve standards of living, and develop industry in Kazakhstan while preserving the ecobalance.

May all exhibitors, guests and organisers of the exhibition and conference enjoy a constructive and creative work, stay well and succeed in their noble business!

N. Ashimov
Minister of Environment Protection, Republic of Kazakhstan

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am happy to welcome exhibitors and guests of the 5th Anniversary Central Asian International Exhibition of EcoTechnologies and EcoServices for Industry and Municipal Facilities – EcoTech 2009.

The environmental problems currently faced by one of the biggest cities of Kazakhstan are also realised by all major cities, and need prompt solution.

The Almaty City Akimat has developed the following conservation programmes which are now being implemented: a comprehensive programme on improving the environmental situation in Almaty, Taza Aua – Zhanga Daua, for 2008-2015; a programme on management of waste generated by motor vehicle service entities in Almaty, for 2008-2010; and the regional programme Rivers and Water Bodies of Almaty. A memorandum of understanding and cooperation was signed with UNDP to establish a specialised power service company and develop the service market and energy saving activities in heat supply systems of administrative buildings and residential high-rises.

In this respect, I would like to underline the importance of the exhibition as it is going to enhance nature conservation, exchange expertise, introduce the latest and environment-friendly technologies in industrial production and municipal economy, and reduce pollution in Almaty and all over Kazakhstan.

I am sure that the annual exhibition will enhance a constructive and mutually beneficial cooperation between environment specialists, development of the environment management system at Kazakhstan facilities, and become a venue for establishing business contacts and signing long-term contracts.

May the exhibitors, guests and organisers of the exhibition enjoy a successful work and prosperity!

Akhmetzhan Yesimov
Almaty City Akim
