Welcome Letters 2011

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

On behalf of the Ministry of Environment Protection of the Republic of Kazakhstan, I would like to welcome the exhibitors and guests of the Kazakhstan International Industrial Innovation Forum - KIIF 2011.

At the Sixth Ministerial Conference on Environment and Development in Asia and the Pacific (MCED-6), held in Astana on September 27 through October 02, 2010, Kazakhstan initiated the green growth policy and public-private partnership between social and international organisations for a sustainable development.

I am sure that exhibitions, as a form of collaboration, are an excellent platform to develop this partnership. I am happy to see that this year’s KIIF 2011 will incorporate four exhibitions in one event: KazAtomExpo 2011, Power & Lighting Astana 2011, Mining & Metals 2011, and EcoTech Astana 2011.

KIIF 2011 will offer an exhibition venue for specialists in ecology, mining, metallurgy, mechanical engineering, nuclear power and industry, power and lighting to demonstrate the latest achievements in their sectors, and discuss important issues of the innovations market development in Kazakhstan, resource conservation and power saving.

Priorities of the Ministry of Environment Protection of Kazakhstan include collection of “hazardous waste passports” of enterprises that use natural resources, setup of baseline information for the state waste cadastre, as well as detection of waste in abeyance. Notably, overall accounting and control is being established to prevent and minimise waste formation, as well as waste collection, processing, recycling, decontamination, storage and disposal. Interaction with local executive bodies and other agencies is getting improved to create an effective waste market in the country.

The most important areas include development and implementation of breakthrough investment projects on waste recycling, development of small and medium business in the country’s oblasts to manufacture building, packing and finishing materials according to international standards.

In this respect, the KIIF 2011 roundtable on Innovations in the Waste Management System is critical.

May all exhibitors, guests and organisers of KIIF 2011 enjoy a constructive and creative work, stay healthy and achieve their goals!

M. Turmagambetov
Vice-Minister of Environment Protection
Republic of Kazakhstan
