The basic directions of cooperation with UNDP in the field of environment protection are preservation of a biological diversity, easing of effect of climate change, the termination of ozone depleting substances use and persistent organic pollutants, introduction and use of practice of renewed energy sources.
UNDP is one of three main executive agencies of Global ecological facility. In this connection, interaction with UNDP is carried out within the framework of realization of national and regional projects and the programs financed by GEF.
Now at support of UNDP full scaled GEF/UNDP projects as "Integrated conservation of priority globally significant migratory bird habitat: a demonstration on three sites", "Kazakhstan - Wind Power market development initiative ", "Removing barriers to increased energy efficiency of hot water and heat supply and use in Kazakhstan ", "Sustainable rangeland management" ÃÝÔ/ÏÐÎÎÍ are realized.
UNDP provides the big support in institutional development that has huge value for realization of priorities of sustainable development of Kazakhstan.
In the period since 2001 till 2007 jointly with UNDP in the field of environment protection following projects have been realized:
- " Assessment of national capacity for performance of obligations under the international ecological conventions ", result - inventory persistent organic pollutants in the Republic of Kazakhstan, assistance in ratification of the Stockholm convention on persistent organic pollutants and Rotterdam conventions on procedure of the preliminary proved consent concerning separate dangerous chemical substances and pesticides in international trade.
- Assessment of national capacity for performance of obligations under the international ecological conventions, result - drafts of strategy and plan of action on strengthening capacity of Kazakhstan for performance of ecological conventions are developed, the integrated review is developed.
- Strengthening environmental management for sustainable development result” - assistance to CSD creation, the international practice is investigated in the field of sustainable development, assistance in development of HENS, assistance in development of the Ecological code.
Also MoEP jointly with UNDP realizes the project "Assistance to transition of the Republic of Kazakhstan to sustainable development ", being continuation of the previous projects and programs on institutional development. The purpose of such support is achievement of priorities of development of Kazakhstan by assistance to efficient environment protection management and providing achievement of sustainable development of republic. Duration of the project: 2007-2010.
Now MoEP jointly with UNDP is planned realization of projects in the field of environment protection:
- " Development and realization of the all-round plan on safe management by storekeeping and waste products of polyvinylchloride in Kazakhstan ";
- " Planning of energy effectiveness at construction of residential buildings ";
- " Improvement of organization of public transport system in Àlmaty".
