EU helps reduce impact of oil and gas industry on environment

Europe Aid Project of the EU Bureau aims to help reduce the environmental impact of oil and gas activities in Central Asia, namely in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan
The two – year project with the budget of EUR 2.6 million is a part of an important program INOGATE that promotes cooperation between EU states and the Caspian and Black Sea regions and neighboring countries, Kazinform refers to the EU Office in Almaty.The project will play a key role in achieving the objectives for a sustainable and reliable system of transportation of energy resources between Europe and Central Asia. Working in partnership with BSI British Standards and Sweco (Sweden consulting firm in the sphere of engineering and ecology), Consortium headed by “AEA” Company, chosen by European Commission, will contribute to increasing efficiency of oil-and-gas networks in beneficiary countries and enhance environmental protection.

One of the main tasks of the project is to help governments of the region improve their environmental legislation, which is a key driving force in improving the environmental situation in the EU. Another task is contribution to the project implementation in the area of sustainable environmental development in order to attract project funding from international financial institutions and oil and gas developers, as well as to prepare for the introduction of a system permitting emissions trading.
